Its like the narrator feels the need to be very, very deeply dramatic, even when not appropriate to the story, but is only able to manage pissed off. ![]() The lovemaking, which is a little creepy to begin with, matching as it does Granny Little House on the Prairie with grouchy half-breed stereotype Nam vet, veers off into crazy-land as the narrator angrily YELLS non-angry sex. The hero's voice is somewhat better, though it didn't match the image the words created, but the narrator has a very angry, yelly manner. Even when she is in the midst of being ravished. A 60 year old virgin-nympho cranky school marm who speaks with the cadence of pioneer America. The narrator voices her as a crotchety 60 year old. The main character is supposed to be a young virginal southern goodie-two-shoes teacher. But worse, the narrator is abysmal for this story. Maybe an unabridged version would be better. for the first time ever, Mackenzies Mountain is a classic novel of romantic suspense from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Linda Howard. It weirdly jumps around and you have no understanding of why the main characters are suddenly, and rather creepily, porn-movie hot for one another. Bad on me for not realizing this was abridged. ![]()
